Amanda Staveley has revealed to an ITV journalist that she is still ‘committed’ to the Newcastle United takeover deal.

The Lowdown: Staveley call

Staveley, who is part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) consortium looking to take over at St James’ Park, has recently spoken to Sky Sports referencing a letter that she wrote urging both the UK government and football regulators to ensure that the upcoming arbitration case against the Premier League is made public.

This follows a statement from the Tyneside club calling for the same thing, as the top flight are now under pressure to follow in their footsteps.

The Latest: Staveley ‘committed’

In a recent interview with ITV journalist Chris Conway, Staveley claimed that she remains ‘committed’ to the deal, adding that she thinks the investment is ‘really important’.

The businesswoman and head of PCP Capital Partners also touched upon the ‘thousands of letters’ that the consortium have received from members of the Toon Army, and reiterated that she does not want to let those supporters down.

The Verdict: Consortium not going away

Staveley’s battle cries in her last two interviews suggest that she and the consortium are certainly not going away with regards to the potential takeover at Newcastle.

With the arbitration hearing set to take place later this month, they will be more than confident of achieving a positive result, which in turn could speed up the takeover process for the club.

Nonetheless, all eyes will be on the forthcoming proceedings, which should paint a much clearer picture over the direction of where the takeover is heading.

مع استعداد البرتغالي الدولي رونالدو للعودة إلى الملاعب من أجل مباراة مانشستر يونايتد مع آرسنال، أشاد أرتيتا بما حدث في ملعب “آنفيلد” من الجماهير.

وقال أرتيتا يوم الجمعة في مؤتمره الصحفي: “لا أعتقد أنه مسموح لي بالحديث عن شيء من هذا القبيل لأنه ما لم تختبر ذلك فلن تكون على نفس المستوى للتعبير عن الألم أو المرور به”.

مضيفًا في تصريحاته التي نشرتها صحيفة “مترو” البريطانية: “ما أظهره هذا البلد والدوري مع ما حدث في آنفيلد قبل أيام، أعتقد أنه استثنائي”.

وأكد المدير الفني الإسباني: “يجب أن تقود الرياضة إلى إيجاد بعض الوحدة على المستوى البشري الذي يُفتقد أحيانًا”.

وأتم: “لقد كان مثالًا رائعًا وشيء يجب أن نفخر به حقًا للمشاركة في دوري حيث يمكن لبعض الأندية والأشخاص المشاركين في هذه الرياضة إظهار مثل هذا الشيء”.

A number of Liverpool supporters believe that the possibility of the Africa Cup of Nations being cancelled next year could mean no new attacking signings for the Reds this summer.

As things stand, Jurgen Klopp will be well aware that he will lose both Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane midway through next season due to AFCON taking place in Cameroon. That will clearly be a blow and would surely heighten the need for new signings to come in, ensuring Liverpool’s that attack doesn’t fall apart without them to call upon.

According to African Insider on Twitter, though, the tournament is now in serious doubt because of the virus currently affecting the world. Should that happen, it would act as an undoubted boost for the Reds, ensuring that two of their most prized assets remain at Anfield for the for the full campaign.

Aston Villa manager Dean Smith could sign the club’s new Christian Benteke in Burnley striker Chris Wood.

What’s the story?

Football Insider recently claimed that the £7.2m-rated marksman is being lined up by Smith as someone to add more firepower to go along with Ollie Watkins, adding that Villa “are one of three top-12 Premier League clubs keeping close tabs on Wood.”

Given his style of play, he could well be the man to finally replace Benteke after the big Belgian’s departure from Villa Park a few years ago.

A new Benteke

Wood has been hailed as a “natural goalscorer” in the past by former Leeds manager Garry Monk, whilst former Millwall team-mate Scott Malone added to the rave reviews by claiming that “he’s frightening” to play against.

Since he made the step up to the Premier League, the striker has taken to the top flight like a duck to water, bagging 47 goals in 136 games at that level, leading to Newcastle icon Alan Shearer to hail the impact he has had for Burnley.

The former Magpies striker said: “I like him, I like what he does for the team and he is the focal point for them. He is very good at occupying two centre halves. He is a get out for Burnley if they want because they are not afraid to knock it long.

“He can keep hold of it and bring other players into the game. He is horrible to play against and he won’t give defenders a moment’s peace.”

Just like Benteke, Wood is an absolute handful for defenders to deal with, and he is a real threat in the air – last season in the Premier League saw him win a massive 4.7 aerial duels per game, which was the joint fourth-best in the entire division (Benteke was top with 6.8).

Muriqui foi revelado pelo Madureira. Com o destaque no Tricolor suburbano, acabou indo para o Vasco por empréstimo em 2004 e deixou o clube no ano seguinte. Em sua passagem, ele até fez bons jogos, mas teve o desempenho prejudicado com muitas lesões. Depois ele ainda defendeu outros times no Brasil, como Avaí e Atlético-MG.

In some senses, Celtic failing to appoint a new manager yet could be a blessing in disguise.

As the season unravels and club owners quickly begin to realise they won’t achieve their objectives, it opens the door for the Bhoys to appoint some recently sacked head coaches.

What’s the word?

Celtic are looking to take advantage of this by appointing Jose Mourinho as their new manager.

The Sun reported last week that the Portuguese was ready to make a swift return to the game after being sacked by Tottenham.

The Hoops have reportedly been in contact with Mourinho but unfortunately, rumours of a move have been quashed already.

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show, journalist Mark Guidi made a worrying claim about Celtic’s interest.

He commented: “I would say absolutely next to no chance. He normally wouldn’t get out of his bed for less than 8 million quid unless he’s willing to take a serious pay cut. But with the greatest of respect to Celtic, it’s a non-starter.”

The sorry story of Celtic’s hunt for a new manager has been summed up by a whole host of setbacks in the last two months.

Eddie Howe had been in advanced discussions with the Bhoys but a move for the former Bournemouth boss has fallen flat in the last few weeks.

A number of issues have emerged regarding his backroom staff while a key problem is that he doesn’t actually want to return to football until the summer.

Celtic have no such issue with Mourinho but unfortunately, a move is very much a fantasy for the time being.

It’s hardly a surprise to hear a swoop for the self-proclaimed special one is a non-starter but it will represent another mighty blow to majority shareholder Dermot Desmond.

A whole eight weeks have passed since Lennon walked out of Paradise and they haven’t even come close to discovering a successor.

Mourinho is undoubtedly the biggest name to be linked with Parkhead and judging by his history alone, it would have been a spectacular appointment.

He is a multiple Champions League winner, a manager who has won eight titles in Europe’s top five leagues. He has won FIFA’s Manager of the Year award and is one of the most iconic figures in the game.

Unfortunately, Celtic have very little chance of securing his services. Desmond will have to look elsewhere.
