Liverpool are to sign England under-17s midfielder Harvey Elliot this summer, according to the Telegraph.

After claiming the Champions League trophy last month, Jurgen Klopp has introduced just one player to Liverpool’s squad. One for the future Dutch defender Sepp van der Berg is the German’s only addition so far this summer, but the German boss might be about to add another prodigy to his ranks in the form of Fulham’s Elliot.

As per the Telegraph, Elliot, the youngest player ever to play in the Premier League (having made his debut aged 15 years and 174 days), is to join Liverpool this summer after months of being linked to some of the biggest and best clubs in Europe, including Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig.

In ESPN’s report of the deal, they claim the club’s thinking this summer involves the retention of current talent over squad reconstruction, while ‘snapping up’ young talents.

The Liverpool Echo have described the attacking midfielder as a versatile player who is “not shy when it comes to launching an attack and scoring goals,” with five goals and three assists to his name for the under-18 side in 12 appearances last season.

While expecting him to come in and fill a creative void (one pointed out by Chris Bascombe of the Telegraph) since Philippe Coutinho departed at his young age would perhaps be too much, potentially winning a transfer battle for a player courted by other members of the European elite would be another sign the Reds are returning to the top, with Miguel Delaney already suggesting the Champions League win had restored their super-club status.

Already champions of Europe, it seems the Reds’ apparent plan to secure young talents to get their house in order for the years to come is underway.

Manchester City and Puma officially launched the club’s new 2019/20 third kit earlier this week at an exclusive launch event that took place in Shanghai.

The big reveal was used to mark the start of the team’s summer pre-season tour in Asia that is just around the corner.

Pep Guardiola has already picked his travelling squad and the players will soon be starting their preparations for the upcoming pre-season matches.

During the coming the Citizens will play West Ham in the Nanjing Olympic Sports Centre as a part of the Premier League Asia Trophy before moving on to Shanghai, where they will play the final or third-place play-off against an opponent that is yet to be decided.

And naturally, their stars have already been “parading” the new kit on social media. Social media fanatic Benjamin Mendy has unsurprisingly been one of the first players to post about it.

Mendy took to Instagram to showcase the new beauty with an interesting caption that stated: “If you want to look good like me, get it”.

The post has certainly got the attention from other stars and fans alike but the comments are quite mixed to say the least.

While there are people who certainly like the new design, plenty of others don’t really think much of it.

Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa looks to have performed a big U-turn on his comments from April following director of football Victor Orta’s latest transfer update.

Speaking to the press in Australia during the Yorkshire outfit’s tour down under, Orta said that the Whites; squad is getting close to completion with less than a fortnight until the new Championship season gets underway.

The Spaniard said, via Leeds Live: “We always are open in the market, but now we are 90 per cent (complete).

“90 per cent is close. Obviously it’s football. In life, all that I know is I am going to die. The rest, I am not sure.”

This suggests that the club’s summer business is close to completion, but also that Bielsa has gone back on what he said following the defeat against Wigan Athletic earlier in 2019.

After that loss against the Latics at Elland Road – that ultimately left United with too much to do in their bid to secure an automatic promotion spot – the Argentine manager was under no illusions as to what it meant at the time, and for the upcoming campaign if they failed to go up through the play-offs.

He said, via The Yorkshire Evening Post: “Remember what I say now because you’ll be able to verify it. You won’t find a single player in our team who would be able to reproduce the same level of performance in another season because we’ve been very demanding with them.

Those words and Leeds’ play-off failure against Derby County hinted that big squad changes were on the cards, but instead it looks as though it is largely going to be the same players involved again in 2019/20.

Pontus Jansson may have been replaced by Ben White and Helder Costa may have arrived from Wolves, but those are the only two fresh faces with Jack Clarke returning to Elland Road following his permanent move to Tottenham Hotspur, and Jack Harrison also coming back for a second loan spell from Manchester City.

With Orta saying the squad is 90% complete, it would suggest that there might only be a couple of other new faces arriving before the window slams shut in two-and-a-half weeks’ time.

Bielsa may well be going into the season with a similar set of players then, and he will be hoping that he eats his words and that they can do better than they did last term, otherwise they will be spending yet another year at this level.

TalkSPORT’s Darren Lewis and Russ Williams have made a brutal claim over Norwich City’s summer transfer window.

The Mirror’s Lewis and Williams believe that Norwich City’s lack of spending in the transfer window showed a ‘defeatist’ attitude.

The Canaries have only spent £3.75m (per Transfermarkt) in the summer window so far, and with only a week and a half left Daniel Farke has seemingly ruled out a late splurge.

Lewis and William’s were appearing on talkSPORT’s show ‘Saturday scoreboard’ and they seemed far from pleased by the Norfolk club’s transfer activity.

“Surely, all of the effort of last season, all of the work that’s gone into backing Farke to rebuild the squad to get back up, I have to say, I am fascinated by what I see as quite a defeatist attitude.”

“Surely, you should be saying ‘let’s get some quality, we’ve worked so hard to the top of this mountain, let’s see if we can get the quality to be able to stay there,” said Lewis.

“It’s like a boxer, taking on the big fight, agreeing to it, knowing they’re going to get their share of the purse and then turning up for their ring walk and thinking ‘I’ve got no chance here, I’m going to lose’. One man’s realism is another man’s defeatism” said Williams. (Source: talkSPORT)

It could be argued that Williams and Lewis are right in their assessment of the club’s current situation. While splashing the cash, like Fulham did last season, won’t necessarily translate to safety, Norwich City still require players of a certain quality.

Huddersfield Town, in their second season in the Premier League, can be seen as a side who lacked quality and suffered as a result.

The Terriers spent no money on a centre-forward in the 2018 summer transfer window, despite the fact, their main two Steve Mounie and Laurent Depoitre scored just 13 goals between themselves in the 2017/2018 season.

The end result was Huddersfield’s inevitable (described as such by Match of the Day pundit Martin Keown as early as March last season) relegation as they scored just 22 goals last season. This shows that if your squad need an injection of quality, it’s very hard to stay up.

Right now, their lack of spending is a source of concern.
