According to The Mirror, Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira has conceded that the only way his side will get to keep rising star Joao Felix for next season is if the buying club loan him back to them.

What’s the word, then?

Well, the Portuguese giants have a wonderkid on their hands. Felix burst onto the scene last term with 20 goals and 11 assists in all competitions in what was just his first campaign in the Benfica first team.

He is now a fully fledged Portuguese international and a number of top clubs are interested in his services.

The 19-year-old is of interest to Manchester United and Manchester City, but neither of them have yet triggered the teenager’s £105m release clause – Vieira has however admitted that Felix’s head is turned by the wages on offer in the Premier League.

United loaning him back would be best for all parties

Old Trafford is a hostile environment right now.

If Felix arrived and was thrown immediately in at the deep end, but failed to perform straight away, his development would be hampered and the fans would get on his back given the price tag on his head.

It could be severely detrimental to his vast potential.

The best idea for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would be to secure the teenager, one of Europe’s greatest current assets, and then loan him back whilst focusing on sorting out the more fundamental issues in the team, such as the need for a right-back and a centre-back; Felix is obviously special, but he is more of an icing on the cake player and not the sponge itself.

His price tag will only rise, so securing him now is key. Sign him this summer, allow Felix to continue to develop at Benfica whilst attempting to rediscover the real Man United again, and then welcome a prodigious talent into more settled circumstances next year – that would be Solskjaer’s best option.

وعن نهائي دوري أبطال إفريقيا بين الزمالك والأهلي، والتي توج بها الأخير، قال النحاس: “كنت من أكثر الناس سعادة بفوز الأهلي بدوري أبطال إفريقيا لأنني أشجعه، كانت مباراة محترمة بين فريقين كبار، وصول ثلاث أندية مصرية لنهائيات بطولات إفريقية يدل على قوة الدوري المصري”.

وأضاف: “التاريخ سيقول من هو الفائز بدوري أبطال إفريقيا ومن الذي سجل الأهداف، وعندما نراجع التاريح لن نقول من الذي قدم أداء جيدًا، سنقول من الفائز بالبطولة، ليس مهما من كان الأفضل المهم إن التاريخ سيقول (التاسعة للأهلي)”.

وعن قناعاته بالجنوب إفريقي بيتسو موسيماني، قال: “كنت أول مدرب واجهته في الدوري، وكانت من المرات القليلة أن الأهلي يفكر خارج الصندوق، موسيماني يعلم الكرة الإفريقية والمصرية، كنت أتوقع نجاحه لأنه ملم بشكل كبير بهما، وهذا ساعده على النجاح”.

وعن التشابه بين أداء بدر بانون صفقة الأهلي الجديدة وبين أداءه عندما كان لاعبا: “إن شاء الله يكون أفضل مني، أتمنى له التوفيق، هو إضافة قوية لدفاع النادي الأهلي، هو أطول مني وطريقة اللعب مختلفة”.

Unai Emery and Arsenal are seemingly facing an uphill battle in trying to shift Shkodran Mustafi and Mesut Ozil this summer, despite needing the funds to expand their market influence, The Evening Standard reports.

The Gunners reportedly only have a budget of around £40million plus any money generated from player sales to play around with in the transfer market, which is considerably lower than, say, Manchester United, who the same outlet say have offered Ole Gunnar Solskjaer £200million.

With that in mind, offloading Arsenal’s two unwanted stars could prove tricky.

As it stands, only Fenerbahçe have registered an interest in signing Mesut Ozil. However, due to the German international’s huge wage package, which currently stands at £350,000 per week, the transfer was deemed “beyond imagination,” with chief Damien Comolli going as far to call discussions a “waste of time” (as per The Sun).

While shifting Mustafi would be a bonus, it could be argued that Ozil should be the club’s main priority. The paltry six goals and three assists he produced last season hardly justified his apparent wage packet, after all. Right now, it looks as if his figure looms large over the club, with the club arguably hamstrung by the contract they handed him back in January 2018.

Indeed, the Daily Mail claimed towards the end of May that the club’s finances were in disarray and that they were even considering subsiding the former Real Madrid man’s salary to any potential taker just to get him out. So, it’s fair to say that this is a tricky situation.

Would Arsenal really miss his presence? It’s hard to suggest they would if last season is anything to go by. Do Arsenal need to funds to improve? It certainly seems that way. Are Arsenal going to be able to sell either player? It doesn’t seem likely right now, considering the Standard’s report says there has been a lack of concrete interest in the two.

Frankly, it appears to be a real mess at the Emirates Stadium right now.

Aribo was a major part of Charlton’s promotion success in English League One last season, scoring ten goals from midfield, but has decided against extending his contract at the club to make the move to the Scottish Premiership.

The Ibrox boss told the club’s official website that he hopes Aribo can be the kind of box-to-box player that can “unlock defences” next season.

Rangers are now only a few players away from having a very competitive squad across all positions on the pitch and fans are delighted with the progress being made in terms of recruitment.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has broken the habit of a career by sending Leeds United academy product Jack Clarke back to Yorkshire on loan.

The winger became the club’s first signing in over a year on Tuesday after Spurs agreed a reported fee of £10m with Leeds United.

He has signed a contract until 2023 but will immediately return to the Championship club on loan for the duration of the 2019/20 campaign, as the Whites once again attempt to win promotion to the Premier League.

Yet this feels out of character for Pochettino.

Indeed, it must be noted that Marcelo Bielsa, a coach revered by Pochettino, manages Leeds; the pair have a storied connection. A fabled tale goes that before Bielsa signed Pochettino at Newell’s Old Boys when the Spurs boss was 13, he asked to see his legs while he was sleeping, to see if he was likely to be good enough to play for the club. He thought they were and signed him.

And yet, loans are not often utilised by Spurs. The likes of Oliver Skipp, Kyle Walker-Peters and Harry Winks could all have gone out on loan in recent seasons, as could Juan Foyth, with all four players having played through periods when they were deemed good enough to be around the first-team but not quite at the point of featuring regularly.

At most top clubs, that is when a loan is arranged, and the player will join either a mid-table Premier League club or a Championship side, as they look to gain minutes and experience – Derby’s decision to loan Liverpool’s Harry Wilson and Chelsea’s Mason Mount last season attests to that.

At Spurs, though, it’s more a case of loans being for those players who will eventually be discarded, when there isn’t actually a buyer to be found.

Look at the list of players who spent the 2018/19 season out on loan: Cameron Carter-Vickers, Samuel Shashoua, Marcus Edwards, Connor Ogilvie, Joshua Onomah, Georges-Kevin N’Koudou, Anthony Georgiou, Shayon Harrison, Kazaiah Sterling and Tom Glover.

Ogilvie has already been allowed to join Gillingham permanently, while Glover has been released. Carter-Vickers is 21 and has played four times for the club at centre-back; Shashoua is 20 and has never had a sniff of the first-team; Edwards is talented but his attitude has been questioned; Onomah has already been tipped to join Sheffield Wednesday permanently; N’Koudou does not have the required ability to play for the club; Georgiou, Harrison and Sterling are all 20 or over and have played a combined 18 minutes at the top level.

That Clarke is going out on loan, then, is a ceding of control from Pochettino.

He usually nurtures the young players who are coming through, slowly exposing them to first-team action before eventually being able to bed them in when they are ready.

Perhaps he does not deem Clarke to be in the same category as the likes of Skipp or Walker-Peters yet; perhaps this deal was merely done to get a jump on the competition and ensure that a talented player is on the books at Spurs before he becomes a star in the Championship.

That, of course, is the hope for him next season, that he can thrive at Elland Road and return to Spurs ready to make a breakthrough.

Pochettino has broken his habit with this deal. He had better hope it pays off.
