Football FanCast can only assume that not too many of you are keeping a close eye on the footwear worn by modern-day footballers, and why would you?

Spectators are far more interested by the tactical decisions, the performances of individual players and the scorelines recorded at the end of the day; what else is there to worry about?!

Well, for the more eagle eyed among us, and those who take a keen interest in the fashion-based side of the game, a number of players have worn some boots that differ from the latest versions of Nike and adidas’ newest range worn by most Premier League stars.

With than in mind, let’s take a look at a couple of Crystal Palace players who have broken the mould with their choice of boot already this season…

Wilfried Zaha – Nike Mercurial Vapor 360

The Ivory Coast international was seen wearing a blackout version of Nike’s Mercurial Vapor 360 range, making a change from the latest yellow-bottomed edition worn by the likes of Christian Eriksen and Anthony Martial.

Zaha’s decision to black his boots is still a bit of a mystery, but it’s curious that he’s even covered up the famous ‘swoosh’ tick.

Luka Milivojevic – adidas F50 adizero

The Serbian international has worn the adidas F50 adizero range since his time with Olympiakos in Greece.

Milivojevic prefers to wear the green and white colourway instead of his yellow or orange and blue pairs due to the softer ground in the English game, as he mentions in the club’s official video discussing his footwear.

These boots have been no stranger to the chalk on the penalty spot since his arrival in England, and long may they be the source of more goal-bound strikes for the Eagles’ midfield destroyer.

وعلى الرغم من ذلك، أفادت صحيفة “Eleftheria” اليونانية بأن وردة قد أرسل رسالة إلى كوجياس خلال الساعات القليلة الماضية، كشف فيها عن رغبته باللعب على سبيل الإعارة في الموسم المقبل بنادي لاريسا.

وأشار وردة في رسالته إلى كوجياس أن هناك مفاوضات في الوقت الحالي بين باوك وأوفي كريت لاستعارته، لكنه منفتح للانتقال إلى لاريسا مرة أخرى.

ولكن الصحيفة اليونانية أكدت أن لاريسا لا يفكر في التعاقد مرة أخرى مع وردة، لأنهم كانوا غير راضين عن سلوكه خلال فترة الإعداد لعودة الموسم بعد جائحة فيروس كورونا.

On Friday, it was announced that Liverpool attacker Sadio Mane had been named the club’s Player of the Month for January.

Mane held off competition from Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino to land the award for the first time this season.

The attacker – a 2016 arrival from Southampton – started all four of his team’s Premier League games in January, scoring in the 4-3 win over Crystal Palace and 1-1 home draw with Leicester City.

Mane is enjoying yet another strong season for the Reds, having scored 13 times in 32 appearances in all competitions, although just one of those goals has come in the Champions League.

The 26-year-old has also been in impressive form this month and the Liverpool fans will hope that the attacker can register against Manchester United on Sunday afternoon, should, as expected, he start at Old Trafford.

وتابع: “لقد أصبحنا أفضل مع مرور الوقت، وإذا كنا أكثر فاعلية بعض الشيء لفزنا بالمباراة، الشعور هو أننا انتهينا بشكل جيد وكان بإمكاننا حصد النقاط الثلاث”.

وأشاد إيمانويل بأداء الإسباني ديفيد سيلفا، في أول مباراة له مع الفريق منذ انتقاله قادمًا من مانشستر سيتي هذا الصيف.

وقال: “ديفيد قادر على إعطائنا كل ما لديه، حتى لو كانت حالته البدنية 60 أو 70 % فقط، كان على وشك منحنا تمريرتين حاسمتين، أو تسجيل هدف عندما سدد الكرة”.

واختتم: “إنه يجلب لنا الهدوء والسكينة عندما يكون لائقًا، وهذا سيكون قريبًا وسيعطينا الكثير”.

Rangers’ chances of winning the Scottish Premiership title have surely increased following the news that Brendan Rodgers is set to leave Celtic to take up the vacant post at Leicester City, but it leaves Steven Gerrard with a vital job to carry out, and probably the most important of his tenure to date.

On the chalkboard

A loss against Kilmarnock after the winter break and a goalless draw at home to St Johnstone earlier this month looked to have fatally damaged the Glasgow giants’ hopes of winning the league this season, given how formidable the Bhoys appeared under their Northern Irish manager.

However, there is no doubt that his departure could easily affect the players and the club’s performances on the pitch even with Neil Lennon reportedly agreeing to succeed him, and their local neighbours will know that they potentially have a big opportunity to grasp in the coming weeks and months with the gap lying at eight points ahead of their Wednesday fixture against Dundee.

One thing that has cost them before could ultimately do so again in their renweed title bid though, and Gerrard needs to ensure that it doesn’t happen.

No more complacency

It is something that the 38-year-old has accused his team of already this term, and he certainly cannot afford to let it rear its ugly ahead again anytime soon.

Suddenly the pressure if off of his side and all on Celtic, but the Rangers players simply can’t get into a mindset where they feel that they can easily win every game they turn up to – because it doesn’t happen like that, as they have learned against Kilmarnock and St Johnstone already in 2019.

Gerrard has obviously failed to eradicate it previously, but now he has the most important job of his Rangers reign to date so it doesn’t happen again and so they can push their arch-enemies all the way.

Crystal Palace emerged 3-1 victors of their clash with Burnley on Saturday and Wilfried Zaha’s exploits were enough to land him a place in Garth Crooks’ team of the week – the BBC Sport pundit was extremely impressed with the Ivorian winger, who joined Romelu Lukaku and Troy Deeney in his front three.

What did he say?

Writing in his regular feature on BBC Sport, Crooks said:

“It was like a rendition of The Beatles hit Twist and Shout. Only this time it wasn’t John Lennon on vocals but Wilfried Zaha calling the tune.

“The Ivory Coast international had Burnley’s Ben Mee and Charlie Taylor performing the dance before slotting the ball past Tom Heaton.

“There is nothing more humiliating than a skilful winger making defenders dance around the pitch unable to lay a boot on the player.”

Zaha’s the star

The 26-year-old has chalked up five goals and one assist in his last seven appearances, in which he has been restored to his berth on the left-wing.

Prior to this recent purple patch, the former Manchester United man had been having an underwhelming season in terms of goal contributions but he is now showing, for yet another campaign, that he can be simply unstoppable when he’s at his best.

The tricky number 11 played a crucial role in the build-up to Phil Bardsley’s own goal and then, as Crooks says, had Clarets defenders Mee and Taylor slipping and sliding all over the place before firing home on his weaker foot.

The Selhurst Park faithful will surely be hoping that their hero will be in scintillating, ankle-breaking form once again when they face arch-rivals Brighton this weekend.

The departure of Brendan Rodgers at such an integral part of the season has surely provoked inquiries into the ambition of Celtic Football Club.

Regardless how big Celtic may be, and we do not doubt their significant influence, clubs in Scotland are always susceptible to losing players to the richer clubs in the south, and abroad.

It is an unfortunate reality that has weaved itself in the fabric of the modern Scottish game.

Indeed, losing Brendan Rodgers to Leicester City at this stage of the season, with a domestic title all but secured, is testament to the state of the current football food chain.

Celtic chairman Peter Lawwell has a real test on his hands now to manage a potential exodus of players and ensure the club do not fall victim to further poaching.

And this difficult task may be made even harder if The Scottish Sun’s reports are true.

Prized possession Kieran Tierney is said to be the subject of interest from German giants Borussia Dortmund this summer, alongside Unai Emery’s Arsenal and Rodgers Leicester – who are both long-term admirers of the player.

Lawwell must demonstrate that he is still ambitious if he wants any chance of keeping his star players this summer – and ambition roughly translates major transfer activity, nowadays.

Admittedly, there has been a minor flurry in the market, and permanently bringing in Odsonne Edouard, Vakoun Issouf Bayo and Maryan Shved is all very good.

But it is hard to ignore the fact that a majority of Parkhead transfers have either arrived on loan deals or free transfers.

And where it is exciting to see the likes of Timothy Weah and Oliver Burke strutting their stuff the Bhoys, their temporary service shows a desperate lack of ambitious and a worrying sign of Celtic’s weakness in the market.

If Lawwell wants to ensure players that the club is going places, he is going to need to invest some serious money.

أعلن نادي مانشستر سيتي رحيل لاعبه نيكولاس أوتامندي إلى صفوف فريق بنفيكا البرتغالي، خلال موسم الانتقالات الصيفي الحالي.

ولم يكشف النادي الإنجليزي عن القيمة المالية لتلك الصفقة، ولكن بنفيكا أعلن منذ يومين أنها تبلغ 15 مليون يورو.

وقضى أوتامندي 5 سنوات في ملعب الاتحاد، وشارك في 210 مباريات في مختلف المسابقات، وسجل 11 هدفًا.

وقال أوتامندي، في تصريحات للموقع الرسمي للنادي: “كانت 5 سنوات رائعة، ليس فقط من الناحية الكروية، ولكن أيضًا في نادٍ حيث يعاملونك بأفضل طريقة ممكنة، من الطهاة إلى القائمين على المعدات، إلى طاقم العمل في الغرف الخلفية”.

وأضاف: “أتيحت لي الفرصة للفوز بالدوري الإنجليزي مرتين، والفوز بكأس كاراباو وكأس الاتحاد الإنجليزي ودرع الخيرية، إذا فزت بالألقاب، فذلك لأنك تقوم بالأشياء بشكل جيد، لذا أنا سعيد لأنني استمتعت بهذه اللحظات، وأكثر من ممتن”.

وواصل: “كنت محظوظًا بما فيه الكفاية منذ العام الأول الذي وصلت فيه للفوز باللقب، ولاحقًا مع وصول بيب جوارديولا للفوز بالمزيد، أنا سعيد فقط لأنني لعبت دوري بدعم من زملائي في الفريق والموظفين”.

وتابع: “أريد أيضًا إظهار امتناني للجماهير، منذ وصولي كانوا يعاملونني جيدًا دائمًا، كانوا دائمًا لطيفين للغاية، ويقولون لي أشياء لطيفة، آمل أن يكونوا سعداء، لقد بذلت كل ما بوسعي للنادي ، وآمل أن يستمر النجاح، أرسل كل حبي للجماهير”.
