Manchester United fans debate Luke Shaw’s fitness after Palace cameo

Luke Shaw has had to settle for cup appearances in recent weeks for Manchester United, as Jose Mourinho has preferred the experience of Ashley Young ahead of him.

The former Southampton man has endured a complicated relationship with Mourinho since the Portuguese manager arrived at Old Trafford but was introduced from the bench last night with United chasing a winner at Selhurst Park last night.

In the end, Nemanja Matic clinched a late winning goal to see off Crystal Palace, completing a comeback that saw them come from two goals behind early on in the second half and Shaw’s energy down the left certainly helped.

However, United fans noticed that Shaw did not look especially trim. He has struggled with his fitness in the past, even stretching back to the days when Louis van Gaal was in charge at Old Trafford and some fans thought that his old issues may have resurfaced.

After all, there must be a reason that he was dropped just weeks after Mourinho named him among the world’s best left backs.

Not everyone agreed however, and we’ve taken a look at the contrasting opinions on Shaw’s condition as he pushes for a start in Saturday’s crunch clash with arch rivals Liverpool.

Liverpool fans want RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner to follow Naby Keita to Anfield

Future Liverpool player Naby Keita produced a brilliant assist for teammate Timo Werner in RB Leipzig’s 2-1 win against Zenit Saint Petersburg in the first leg of their last 16 Europa League tie in Germany on Thursday night, and Reds fans want the striker, rated at €60m (£53.4m) according to Transfermarkt, to follow the Guinea international to Anfield.

The Merseyside outfit have agreed a deal to bring the highly-rated Keita to the Premier League at the end of the season after failing in their bid to bring him to England earlier, and Jurgen Klopp would surely have been impressed with Werner’s showing against the Russian club on Thursday as well.

The 22-year-old, who has 17 goals in 34 appearances in all competitions this season, finished well following Keita’s brilliant mazy run, while he produced a clever back-heel assist himself that was fired home by Bruma.

Liverpool supporters were quick to have their say on Werner’s display via social media, and while one said “Liverpool need to buy Werner next”, another said they “would do anything for Liverpool to sign Timo Werner”.

Leeds fans can’t decide on summer swoop for Andy Yiadom

Leeds United have been linked with Barnsley defender Andy Yiadom, and Leeds fans can’t decide what to make of the news.

According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Paul Heckingbottom wants to raid his former club this summer and bring Yiadom to Elland Road.

The 26 year-old is a versatile full back who can play on either flank, and also on the wing. He has impressed suitors this season with his pace and power, and will be available on a free transfer when his contract runs out this summer.

It is no surprise that the club is already planning for next season. Leeds’ season has gone from decent to bad to worse, and the arrival of Heckingbottom certainly did not have the desired impact.

While some fans are questioning whether the ex-Barnsley man will even still be in charge next season, the rest have been debating the move for Yiadom on Twitter, and it seems like a pretty even split.

The flying full back has earned two senior caps for Ghana, and has had a good season despite Barnsley’s current condition.

Sunderland fans annoyed O’Shea isn’t retiring

John O’Shea has quashed reports that he plans to retire at the end of the season, and Sunderland fans are gutted.

Reports this week suggested O’Shea would retire when this season ends, as his contract at Sunderland runs out this summer, but the 36 year-old says this isn’t true.

The Irish defender has started 27 Championship games for Sunderland this season, who sit five points adrift of safety going into their clash with Derby County on Friday night.

While O’Shea certainly isn’t solely to blame for all the Black Cats’ problems, he has had a relatively poor season, and his lack of pace has been a real problem at times.

“When I wake up in the morning my body still feels good – believe me, if it didn’t I’d be the first one to admit it and finish up,” O’Shea said.

“There’s plenty of things to look forward to when my playing career ends, from coaching and management to media and punditry work, and spending more time with my family, but my wife is certainly happy I’ve decided to play on for another year!”

O’Shea says his fitness this season has shown he can still perform, but insists he is only focused on keeping Sunderland in the Championship.

“First and foremost, I’m concentrating on helping the team between now and the end of the season – that’s the big thing, that’s the only thing.”

Fans haven’t been particularly impressed by the defender this season, and they are even less impressed by his plans to continue playing.

Tottenham fans reveal feelings on Sheringham

Teddy Sheringham, what a footballer.

The 51-time England international started his professional career at Millwall back in 1983, and scored 93 league goals for the club before joining Nottingham Forest.

Sheringham’s first spell at Tottenham Hotspur came between 1992 and 1997, and he managed 75 league goals in 166 appearances before joining Manchester United.

The centre-forward continued to enjoy success at United as he famously won the treble with the English giants – ultimately spending four years with the Red Devils before returning to Tottenham for two seasons.

Sheringham later represented Portmouth, West Ham United and Colchester United before retiring from football at the end of the 2007-08 campaign.

The fact that Sheringham did not win his first England cap until the age of 27 is an absolute tragedy, but he more than made up for it in his latter years.

Sheringham turned 52 on Monday, and Tottenham’s official Twitter account posted a birthday message for the former ATK manager, which led to a host of praise from the Spurs fans.

Arsenal fans lavish praise on Lehmann

Jens Lehmann initially turned out for Arsenal between 2003 and 2008 – making 147 Premier League appearances for the Gunners before leaving for Stuttgart.

The 61-time Germany international then returned to Arsenal in the latter stages of the 2011-12 campaign due to an injury crisis which left the club with just one fit senior goalkeeper.

As it transpired, Lehmann, who also represented Schalke 04, AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund during his career, made his 200th Arsenal appearance in April 2011, before retiring from professional football at the end of the season.

The 48-year-old is now amongst Arsene Wenger’s coaching staff at Arsenal, and the club’s Twitter account paid tribute to the German throughout Monday afternoon.

As expected, a number of the Arsenal fans responded with their favourite memories of the former goalkeeper, and there is absolutely no question that he is one of the most popular players to ever turn out for the Gunners.

Arsenal supporters absolutely love Lehmann, and a selection of the Twitter reaction can be seen below:

Man United fans would love to see Radja Nainggolan at Old Trafford next season

AS Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan’s performance was one of the few positives on a disappointing night for the Serie A outfit as they were beaten 5-2 by Liverpool in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final tie at Anfield, and Man United fans have urged their club to sign the Belgium international, rated at £40.5m by Transfermarkt.

The Italian club found themselves 5-0 with more than 20 minutes on the clock as the tie looked to be over, but the 29-year-old produced two assists – one cross for Edin Dzeko as well as winning a penalty when his effort was handled by James Milner – to give them hope ahead of the second leg in Rome.

Meanwhile, Red Devils manager Jose Mourinho may well be looking to strengthen his midfield options this summer with Michael Carrick retiring and Marouane Fellaini looking certain to leave, while the future of Paul Pogba has also been brought into doubt – although it remains unclear whether they would actually be willing to sell their club-record buy this summer.

Man United supporters, whom 55% of on Twitter want Pogba to be sold, were quick to have their say on Nainggolan’s display on Merseyside via social media, and while one described him as “my dream signing for #MUFC”, another said “I’d take Nainggolan at United in a heartbeat”.

Man United fans loved Lindelof’s performance against Arsenal

Manchester United strengthened their grip on second place in the English Premier League on Sunday, defeating Arsenal 2-1 at Old Trafford.

United have now won ten of their last eleven matches in domestic action, with their only slip up coming against West Bromwich Albion a couple of weeks ago.

They now looked destined to finish as runners up in the top-flight, now five points clear of third-placed Liverpool with a game in hand.

Fans were pleased with the performance and win against the Gunners, preventing old foe Arsene Wenger from getting a result in his last match at Old Trafford as Arsenal boss.

Particular praise was given to defender Victor Lindelof who was superb throughout and kept the likes of of Pierre-Emericak Aubameyang very quiet indeed.

Supporters believe he is improving all the time in the United defence and are eager to see him push on further in his second season at the club after the summer.

They took to Twitter to share their thoughts on his performance…

Revealed: 85% of Man United fans want Mourinho to reunite with Varane

Manchester United need a defensive improvement if they are to challenge bitter rivals Manchester City next season, which will doubtless come at great expense yet again.

Jose Mourinho likes people he can rely on and one man he has worked under before is Raphael Varane of Real Madrid, who was one of few players who impressed for the Spanish giants in their lacklustre progression to the Champions League final with a 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich.

On the back of that, we asked Reds fans whether they would like the 25 year old Frenchman to be at Old Trafford by the time next season kicks off and the response was overwhelming.

85 per cent of their fanbase want the classy defender to form part of Mourinho’s defensive revolution next time around as they set about reeling in a City side who could well break many records this season.
