MCFC: Fans react to report on Aguero

Some fans of Manchester City have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relayed a report regarding the future of Sergio Aguero.

According to the report by The Sun, the striker is happy at Manchester City, but with the 32-year-old’s contract set to expire at the end of the season, it is claimed that the Argentine would be unwilling to take a pay cut to his £230,000-per-week wage in any new contract offered by the club.

As a result, it is then reported that, while Pep Guardiola’s side do want to keep hold of the club’s all-time top goalscorer this summer, City are unprepared to offer Aguero a contract of the same worth as his current deal, largely due to his injury problems of late.

After City Xtra relayed this report on Twitter, some fans of Manchester City flocked to have their say on the matter, with many stating that they would not have a problem with Aguero leaving the Etihad Stadium this summer. One even called the 32-year-old “washed” in a damning assessment of his career trajectory – the striker recently ended a 14-month Premier League scoring drought.

So, what did these Manchester City fans have to say in reaction to the report regarding Sergio Aguero?

“Ya I love Kun but he should just leave tbh.”

@KZN22_

“Want to keep him? What are the club thinking? He should leave as soon as possible.”

@mbaalthani8

“This is just sad man.”

@Harry_MCFC891

“Some poorly run club will pay it, so good luck at his next club.”

@normski_1970

“No way there’s a team in the world that would give him that.”

@MCFCDavid027

“He’s washed, let him go.”

@gggd_MCFC

“Hate to say it, but he doesn’t deserve to be on £230k atm. I love serge, but what’s he done recently to earn it?”

@kae_16__

“If it’s a money problem, it’s time to go.”

West Ham eyeing Daryl Dike

According to a report by ‘transfer insider’ Graeme Bailey, writing for TEAMtalk, West Ham United and GSB have been watching Championship forward Daryl Dike closely – who has impressed on loan at Barnsley from MLS side Orlando City.

West Ham eyeing Dike

The 20-year-old, having already earned an international cap for the USA national team, has turned plenty of heads since his arrival in England – scoring five goals so far after joining on loan in early February.

Barnsley also have an option-to-buy clause inserted into the temporary deal at £17 million with a 20% sell-on – but only promotion to the Premier League is likely to tempt the Yorkshire side into activating it.

It is understood by Bailey, writing for TEAMtalk, that Dike has attracted interest from half of the English top flight, with GSB and West Ham among the sides taking note of his exploits at Oakwell.

Transfer Tavern take

Dike has received plenty of plaudits through the media, plenty of which come from one of his former coaches in the United States, George Gelnovatch.

Indeed, Gelnovatch oversaw his development at College side Virginia Cavaliers and quickly noticed his sky high potential – branding him ‘relentless competitor’ and ‘ruthless guy’ (ScoreCiti.com).

Standing at an imposing 6 foot 2, Dike’s swift adaptation to life in England has prompted interest from West Ham – but only time will tell whether they take it a step further.

Gers urged to move for Assombalonga

Former Premier League striker Kevin Campbell has urged Glasgow Rangers to sign Britt Assombalonga on a free transfer this summer.

Campbell urges Assombalonga move

The Gers have been linked with a move for the Congolese striker (GiveMeSport), who currently plays in the Championship for Middlesbrough.

Speaking to Football Insider, Campbell believes that the £2.7m-valued 28-year-old would be a great signing for the Ibrox outfit. He said:

“I think he’ll score a lot of goals in Scotland.

“Morelos will be out. I’m sure he wants to move. Britt Assombalonga would be a handful up in Scotland. He’d be a great replacement.

“He’ll do very well there. On a free too, good business, really great business.”

Gers step up striker drive

It seems that the Gers may be preparing for the departure of Alfredo Morelos as they look to bring in a new forward. The Colombia international has recently revealed that he is eager to play in the Premier League (Radio Caracol), so it may only be a matter of time before he departs the club.

Assombalonga isn’t the only striker the Gers are said to be monitoring – it seems that they are also in pursuit of Peterborough United’s Jonson Clarke-Harris. Either way, it is important Ross Wilson and co to plan for Morelos’ potential departure, as much as they will be eager to avoid such a situation.

Leicester must unleash Pereira on WHUFC

Leicester City cannot afford to leave their best players out of their key Premier League clash with West Ham United.

The two teams head into the game at the London Stadium on Sunday as rivals for the top four, with a coveted place in the UEFA Champions League the potential prize for the victor.

Amongst the players that Foxes boss Rodgers has to include is Portuguese right-back Ricardo Pereira.

Whilst not yet having hit the heights throughout 2020/21 due to a multitude of injury issues, the seven-cap Portuguese international remains one of the best-attacking full-backs in the country.

In the two seasons before his devastating cruciate ligament injury, Pereira racked up six goals and ten assists in all competitions for the Foxes – his pace and trickery proving to be potent weapons for the East-Midlanders.

In fact, the Portuguese even added to that excellent record with a rampant performance against West Ham last season. He notched a goal and an assist in a 4-1 thumping of the Hammers at the King Power Stadium in January.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/latest-leicester-city-news%2c-transfer-rumours-and-more-mcgregor-iheanacho-soyuncu-dewsbury-hall-rodgers” title=” Latest Leicester City news, transfer rumours and more… “]

His performances of course drew plenty of praise, Leicester boss Rodgers going as far as labelling him as “outstanding”.

Even in a season that has been hugely disrupted, Pereira also continues to outperform his rival for the right wing-back role, Marc Albrighton.

According to WhoScored, the former Porto man has produced 2.1 tackles, 1.2 interceptions and 1.5 clearances per game in the Premier League this season. Meanwhile, the Englishman can only rack up 1.1, 0.6 and 0.7 in the same statistics.

The two players are almost identical from an attacking standpoint, too, meaning that Rodgers would not lose any impetus from switching Albrighton for Pereira.

All the signs then point to the Portuguese being an extremely useful inclusion for Leicester against West Ham.

Sitting firmly amongst the club’s players, he has to be played at the London Stadium.

Leeds readying transfer bid for Omar Colley

According to transfer reports, Leeds are serious about making a summer move for Sampdoria defender Omar Colley.

What’s the story?

It has been suggested in recent weeks that Marcelo Bielsa’s side are interested in signing the Gambia international in the upcoming summer transfer window as they look to strengthen the centre of their defence.

Italian publication Il Secolo XIX have claimed (via Sport Witness) that Leeds’ scouts have been left impressed by Colley and that they are now serious about signing him.

The report added that an “offer is now ‘ready’ and that Sampdoria’s request of €12m-13m (£10m-11m) ‘wouldn’t be a problem’ for the Premier League club, ‘considering higher figures have been spent on far less performing defenders’.”

Could be Leeds’ own Van Dijk

Given that Leeds signed two established centre-backs in the shape of Robin Koch and Diego Llorente just last summer, it seems somewhat surprising that Victor Orta and co are looking to sign another proven central defender – especially when they also have club captain Liam Cooper and the likes of Luke Ayling and Pascal Struijk, both of whom can fill in there too.

This season has seen Colley win 2.9 aerial duels per match, which would rank him second among Leeds’ squad for 2020/21, with only Cooper averaging higher with 3.9 per game.

Indeed, as per Whoscored, his average of 2.6 interceptions per game would rank him first in the entire Whites squad, while his 4.2 clearances per match also sees him comfortably above any of Bielsa’s current options.

Leeds only have to look at Liverpool to see the kind of transformative impact a dominant centre-back signing can have, with Virgil van Dijk playing a key role in turning the Reds into Premier League and Champions League winners since joining from Southampton.

While Colley isn’t in that same bracket perhaps just yet, the 1.92m (6 foot 3) powerhouse appears to have the kind of defensive strengths which would make him a formidable opponent for opposition attackers to overcome – in fact, his average of only being dribbled past 0.3 times per game is better than any Leeds player this season.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/latest-leeds-transfer-rumours-and-news” title=”Latest Leeds transfer rumours and news”]

Colley is a brick wall, and while a move is slightly surprising given Leeds’ current options at centre-back, it’s one which could see the Whites land their own version of Van Dijk.

Meanwhile, Bielsa could mould his next Roberto Ayala in this Leeds starlet…

LFC fans fume at latest update

Some Liverpool fans have been bemoaning the news that Sepp van den Berg and Marko Grujic could be used as squad players next season.

The Reds have had an extremely difficult campaign, failing to defend their Premier League title and now desperately battling to finish in the top four.

Key players have under-performed, such as Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino – they have scored just 13 league goals between them – while Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip are all long-term injury absentees.

The hope from these fans is clearly that Jurgen Klopp delves into the transfer market this summer, freshening up his squad and adding quality in the process.

According to the Liverpool Echo [via The Anfield Buzz], however, Liverpool could show faith in Van den Berg and Grujic next season, with the pair currently on loan at Preston North End and Porto, respectively.

THFC: Southgate emerges as manager target

According to recent reports, Tottenham Hotspur could look to bring in Gareth Southgate as the club’s new manager following the sacking of Jose Mourinho on Monday.

The report by The Guardian claimed that Daniel Levy would like to appoint an attack-minded coach as the next permanent manager of Tottenham, with the chairman thought to also be looking for a candidate with a modern outlook on the game as well as having “strong credentials” in the development of younger players.

The Guardian continued by claiming that England manager Southgate could emerge as a target for the north London club, as the 50-year-old has an “excellent relationship” with Harry Kane, before stating that the former Middlesbrough boss would be open to a return to club football.

Transfer Tavern Take

Considering that Southgate’s only previous experience as a manager in club football came during a three-and-a-half-year spell at Middlesbrough, in which he oversaw the club’s relegation to the Championship before being sacked in 2009, the argument could certainly be made that the 50-year-old may not be qualified to take over at Tottenham this summer despite coaching the national team and taking them to the World Cup semi-finals.

However, as The Guardian pointed out, perhaps the manager’s relationship with Kane could be of rather large importance to Levy, who will likely do all he can to keep the Spurs star at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer, with the England captain being heavily linked with a move away from the club. That could count in Southgate’s favour if he is interested in replacing Mourinho at N17.

Celtic: Jose Mourinho is a non-starter

In some senses, Celtic failing to appoint a new manager yet could be a blessing in disguise.

As the season unravels and club owners quickly begin to realise they won’t achieve their objectives, it opens the door for the Bhoys to appoint some recently sacked head coaches.

What’s the word?

Celtic are looking to take advantage of this by appointing Jose Mourinho as their new manager.

The Sun reported last week that the Portuguese was ready to make a swift return to the game after being sacked by Tottenham.

The Hoops have reportedly been in contact with Mourinho but unfortunately, rumours of a move have been quashed already.

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show, journalist Mark Guidi made a worrying claim about Celtic’s interest.

He commented: “I would say absolutely next to no chance. He normally wouldn’t get out of his bed for less than 8 million quid unless he’s willing to take a serious pay cut. But with the greatest of respect to Celtic, it’s a non-starter.”

Gutting news

The sorry story of Celtic’s hunt for a new manager has been summed up by a whole host of setbacks in the last two months.

Eddie Howe had been in advanced discussions with the Bhoys but a move for the former Bournemouth boss has fallen flat in the last few weeks.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-celtic-manager-and-transfer-news-howe-lampard-klimala-ajer-gossip” title= “Read the latest Celtic manager and transfer news!”]

A number of issues have emerged regarding his backroom staff while a key problem is that he doesn’t actually want to return to football until the summer.

Celtic have no such issue with Mourinho but unfortunately, a move is very much a fantasy for the time being.

It’s hardly a surprise to hear a swoop for the self-proclaimed special one is a non-starter but it will represent another mighty blow to majority shareholder Dermot Desmond.

A whole eight weeks have passed since Lennon walked out of Paradise and they haven’t even come close to discovering a successor.

Mourinho is undoubtedly the biggest name to be linked with Parkhead and judging by his history alone, it would have been a spectacular appointment.

He is a multiple Champions League winner, a manager who has won eight titles in Europe’s top five leagues. He has won FIFA’s Manager of the Year award and is one of the most iconic figures in the game.

Unfortunately, Celtic have very little chance of securing his services. Desmond will have to look elsewhere.

Steve Howey claims Staveley needs answers

In an exclusive interview with Football FanCast, Steve Howey, who made 157 appearances for Newcastle United, believes that the only way Newcastle’s takeover will go through is if the new owners come up with the answers that the Premier League want to hear.

Mike Ashley thought he had finally found a buyer that would take Newcastle off his hands when Amanda Staveley’s consortium stumped up £300 million, only for the potential new owners to pull the plug on the deal months later.

As it stands, Ashley’s lawyers are preparing for a legal battle against the Premier League with an arbitration case set to begin later this year, something which the potential new owners turned down last year.

Speaking on how the takeover can go through and how there will always be problems in this potential deal, Howey told FFC:

“I think given what happened in the first attempted takeover of Newcastle, I think there’s always going to be problems.

“They have got to come back with the answers that apparently the Premier League want to hear.”

Steve Bruce has managed to guide Newcastle to safety since their 3-0 defeat against Brighton with the Magpies now unbeaten in their previous four games.

The Magpies earned an unlikely point against Liverpool last week where they also had a goal ruled out for handball by VAR just minutes before Joe Willock scored a 96th-minute equaliser.

Derby fans laud Jozwiak

Derby County remained in the Championship after a dramatic 3-3 draw with Sheffield Wednesday at Pride Park on the final day of the season.

Sam Hutchinson gave Wednesday the lead in the relegation shoot-out on the stroke of half-time.

Martyn Waghorn equalised four minutes into the second half before an excellent Patrick Roberts strike gave Derby the advantage.

Incredibly, though, the visitors then wrestled back control through goals from Callum Paterson and Julian Borner.

But Kamil Jozwiak entered the fray on 73 minutes, replacing Graham Shinnie, and he came up with a crucial contribution.

The Pole won a penalty just over 10 minutes from time after he was taken down by Chey Dunkley.

Waghnorn stepped up and scored to restore parity – meanwhile, Cardiff City found an equaliser against Rotherham in the dying stages, and that proved to be enough to keep Derby up.

Here’s what Derby fans had to say about Jozwiak after his vital contribution.
